ykwu unravelled

YKWU Unravelled is the latest development of our regular knit club ‘You Can Knit With Us’. YKWU Unravelled explores fibres and materials, deepening our understanding of ethical and sustainable sourcing by looking at topics such as natural dye, wool, and biomaterials, at a day-long event featuring workshops, demos and talks.

03: biofabricate

The third Unravelled collaborated with Blue Garage, and explored the process of working and designing with biology. The day began with an open discussion “From Lab to Market” exploring the pathways for new innovations and materials. In the afternoon, we painted onto silk with paints made from plants, hosted by Sugar & Slime.

02: wool

The second Unravelled series took place at Somerset House and explored the use of raw wool through the “Paint With Wool” workshop hosted by Zoë Daley, alongside a talk discussing the realities of designing with wool with educator and knitwear technician Sean-Henry; Finnish designer Ervin Latimer; and designer Clara Pinto.

01: natural dyes

We hosted a day long event at The Lab E20, learning about the effects of synthetic dyes and how to dye materials using naturally! The talk, led by Tina Wetshi, featured Eirinn Hayhow, Designer and founder of EIRINN HAYHOW; Alana Redick, Founder of Ayurvedic clothing brand TryKind Clothing; and Debarati Das, Product and Strategic Designer.
